A Yes Day for Dad
All he really wants is time with us—so we're saying "yes" to doing things his way for a day.
Carolina and I had been circling around what to do for Father’s Day when inspiration struck in the auditorium of her elementary school. It was movie night, and on screen, a family was about to embark on a Yes Day—24 hours where the parents couldn’t say no to any reasonable request from their kids. Ice cream for breakfast? Yes!
We had been debating what to get Michael for a while. His love language is time spent together, phones down, hearts open. After the movie we knew, the best thing we could give him was his very own yes day.
We’ve set a few practical rules: nothing dangerous or illegal, everything must be done together, and our budget must be respected. But really, the only rule that matters is: follow his lead.
I suspect we’ll spend the day seeing lots of art, getting lost in a bookstore, and ending the day with a living room dance party. We’re excited to spend the day making memories and giving Michael exactly what he wants: time together.
He shows up for us every day with his whole heart and it’s our turn to give him a day of connection and love. Today we’re saying yes to what matters most—making memories together. What will you say yes to today?

Photo of the Week
Yesterday I captured this photo in the garden of St. Luke’s in the Fields in the West Village—a cluster of pink-tipped stamens from a magnolia flower had collected into the soft white petals of a magnolia tree.
Long before bees existed, when dinosaurs roamed the earth, there were magnolia trees. Each blossom contains both male and female parts, allowing the tree to reproduce even without the help of insects.
What I didn’t know until today is what magnolia blossoms are edible. The petals can be pickled or used to flavor dishes with a taste that is often described as gingery or floral with a hint of spice. I may need to go back and collect a few blossoms for a culinary experiment!
I hope your “yes” day was a fun day! Happy Father’s Day to all the dads…especially your sweet, kind dad. Please say hello for me.
