The Little Things
100 mini-moments for the year ahead
Last year, I shared a New Year’s Eve tradition inspired by Beau, a friend from my monthly prompt writing class. He makes a list of 100 things to do each year. These aren’t big, life-changing goals—just small moments and experiences that make life richer and more interesting.

Examples from my 2025 list that I’ve completed include:
✅ Get a scalp massage
✅ Float a boat on the Conservatory Pond in Central Park
✅ Visit the sound installation in Times Square

And here are a few things I didn’t get to:
❎ Take Carolina to the Unisphere, a massive steel globe in Queens built for the 1964 World’s Fair.
❎ Eat at the original Patsy’s Pizza.
I recently told Beau that my list is only 75% complete and that I won’t finish it this year.

He said that’s part of the joy. When he looked back year to year, it seemed his list was incomplete. But checking after three, four, or ten years, he’d since done many of the things that were incomplete at year’s end.
With that in mind, I’ve started my 2026 list and, by midnight, will have 100 things to do for the year ahead.
What’s your New Year’s Eve tradition?
Words of the Week
“For last year's words belong to last year's language. And next year's words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning.” – T.S. Eliot.
Photo of the Week
When the ball drops at midnight on New Year’s Eve, over a ton of confetti will fall. Some squares carry handwritten wishes from visitors to Times Square. Above is a recent photo I took of some of this year’s wishes:
Save the Bees
Health Care for All
Courage to Chase my Dreams
Thriving Plants
Friendly Co-workers
Whatever your wish is for 2026, I hope it comes true.
xoxo

Happy happy new year to you!
I first saw the Unisphere as a kiddo!
